Lewis and Clark Festival - Onawa,Iowa

June 13-15, 2014

Festival re-creates the time when Lewis & Clark explored our area. Buckskinners bring history alive. Full-size replica keelboat.

Located at Lewis and Clark State park near Onawa, the site of an 1804 Lewis and Clark encampment. The June festival features movies about the 1804 expedition, buckskinners and mountain men in frontier dress, bluegrass music and historic presentations.

Schedule:

June 13:  11 a.m. to 1 p.m., buffalo burger/pork feed at Lewis and Clark State Park, musical entertainment and music 7-9 p.m. All day, Buckskinner Lodge set up and check-in. Food available at the park 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

June14:  8 a.m. flag raising with Sergeant Floyd Honor Guard. Programs throughout the day including 1800s crafts and displays, black powder shoot, archery competition, art show, kids’ games, speakers, auction, music and seminars. Food available 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

June 15:  7:30-10 a.m. pancake feed; other programs, speakers, seminars, church service, music and speakers until 3 p.m.

  1. The Missouri National Recreational River Resource and Education Center houses the park office and new opportunities in education and recreation are being developed. This 17,000 sq. ft. facility has a large interpretive display/exhibit area, a field laboratory and conference rooms. Meeting rooms will accommodate groups up to 250 or can be subdivided for smaller gatherings. A fully-equipped kitchen is available for rent.
    With more than 20 miles of trails, the park provides hikers and mountain bikers many opportunities to explore the park's backcountry. Several mountain bike races are held every year making the Park's trail system noted for its diverse and often challenging trails.
